Oh my goodness.
I heard that a local dog training facility, K9 Oasis, was sponsoring an event in conjunction with SupLBk— paddleboarding with your dog!! The event, called SupDog, was held in Lubbock, Texas on July 18, 2019 at Dunbar Historical Lake. About 12 dog owners showed up, with their dogs sporting adorable but necessary life jackets.
As the intro training time began, the owners were asked how many had ever paddleboarded before? As in— at all. Without their dogs. Many raised their hands. Hhmmmm. To me, this seemed to be a recipe for disaster. The humans were supposed to be trying to figure out paddleboarding while a wiggly dog is on board? Well, I was wrong. The event managers, Rachel and Velvet, slowly and carefully prepared each owner/handler well and then, one by one, got each pair going. It was a totally successful and crazy fun event for everyone who attended! Even me. I had a ball photographing this. I’ll be back the next time they host SupDog. I hear that’s going to be in September.
