Bits and Pieces About My Pet Photography Business

When choosing to pursue my love of photography, I made the purposeful decision to specialize in animal photography. Yes, humans are allowed in the photos as well, but my work centers heavily around the creation of permanent memories of our beloved pets! Humans create such special and deep bonds with their animals. Those bonds deserve celebration!

You may have noticed that I have some images posted that are of human models – without an animal in sight! You’re probably wondering what’s the deal with that! Well, that’s part of the learning curve. Working with humans allows me an opportunity to study light and practice lighting and practice directing a model that animals alone can’t provide me. Working with humans stretches my limits and forces me to continue to grow and learn.

So what happens after I take photographs? I get to practice my editing skills! And then practice some more. Lightroom and Photoshop are the two editing software programs that I use the most. Lightroom—it wasn’t too hard to learn, though I could still improve. But learning Photoshop has been incredibly challenging! Photoshop is a huge editing program with amazing capabilities, but it has made me work at learning it! Doing so helps me provide my clients with the best possible work.

Then, I source the images to some of the highest-quality printing houses in the country. Ones that utilize beautiful, archival papers that guarantee a consistency in color and quality for 100 years to come (or 200 years if kept away from light)! These labs print the images to the exact specifications of the file that I submit. There is a wider range of sizes and products, and several finishes. Digital images are easily lost on a phone or a computer; photos printed in a non-professional manner will quickly fade. I want your images to be available for your grandchildren to have and enjoy!

I offer my clients a wide range of products to select from when creating personal art from their images: mounted prints, wood prints, metal prints, acrylic prints, gallery-wrapped canvases, and even folio boxes to display your matted photos. You can purchase items individually or choose from one of three available collections.

If you’re ready to ooh-and--aah over the beautiful photographs of your fur-babies, contact me! We’ll schedule a time to meet and discuss your photo session.
