I photograph primarily pets (and their humans) because I have a passion for animals. People around me squeal at the site of rodents or insects, or express their deep fears of dogs or other animals. That definitely doesn’t describe me! I have been emotionally drawn to animals and creatures of all sorts my entire life. If I see a dog out on the street and can’t pet it, I am wounded inside!

One commitment that I have made as a photographer is to participate in the organization, HeARTs Speak— a nationally recognized nonprofit that’s uniting art and advocacy to increase the visibility of shelter animals. First impressions have a huge impact in the adoption rates of shelter pets. Great images give homeless animals an improved chance of finding a forever home and not being put down because they haven’t yet been adopted. As often as possible, I will provide my services pro bono to animal shelters or rescues needing my services.

Last weekend, I drove out to 4 Legged Friends of Lubbock, an all-breed rescue doing great things to find permanent placements for homeless canines. Two friends, Sarah Field & Lori Crum— who work together as veterinary technicians— own the facility and have been rescuing last-chance pets since 2013.

At 4 Legged Friends, the dogs are crate trained. The animals learn what it is to be loved and what inside life is all about; they receive emotional care and enrichment of their lives. Sarah and Lori work on boundaries and acceptable behavior. They also provide all medical needs, ensuring that the dogs are in good health before being adopted to their forever home.

A generous 14-day "Get To Know Me" period is offered to provide potential owners a chance to confirm their decision.
